DC Auditor Seeks Your Help!

The Office of the D.C. Auditor is considering an audit of how the Department of Buildings (DOB) protects adjoining property from dangerous construction. To conduct this review, we are requesting examples of properties from across D.C. for which neighbor notification was required based on the type of construction performed at the site (excavation, underpinning, foundational work, razing, etc.).

To be included in the pool from which we select our sample properties, a significant part of the property’s permitting and inspections processes through DOB needs to have occurred between October 2022 and September 2025.

Additionally, we are seeking properties with at least one of the follow characteristics:

  1. the neighbor notification process allegedly did not occur as required
  2. construction at the permitted site damaged the adjoining/neighboring property or
  3. there was a construction incident on the site.

Please reach out to 4D@anc.dc.gov if you know of a property that meets this criteria.
